No Limit, Guests are welcome
Yes, it’s an AWS Pizza Party! Please join us
at Donerick’s Pub on March 4, 2012, for this fun event.
In an effort to cover a wide spectrum of Wine
Experiences, Rich Spagna has created this interesting Tasting. He has
made a variety of unusual pizzas, including, but not limited to, Buffalo
Chicken, Taco, and much more. His challenge will be to pair his
selection of Red and White Wines to complement the pizzas. Rich will end
the event with a sweet treat (not pizza).
Due to the fact that Rich can accommodate an
unlimited number of people at his Pub, this is a perfect event to bring
guests.

Last Month: Wines of South America
Tasting
The February Event featuring wines from
Argentina and Chile, at the Giant Eagle Market District Store, was a
wonderful evening. Thanks to Bob Fenton for organizing and hosting
this Tasting. Thanks to Gary Vara, Giant Eagle Wine Specialist, for
conducting the Tasting and educating on the wide variety of wines from
South America. Thanks to the Giant Eagle Chefs for treating us to these
wonderful courses of foods that complemented the wines:
Course #1
Cold plate with Serrano Ham, Mild Chorizo, Iberico Cheese,
Manchego Cheese, one small Empanada with some interesting olives.
Course #2
Beef Bourguignon served over Amish Noodles with carrot garnish.
Course #3
Dark Chocolate-Raspberry Mousse garnished with fresh
raspberries.
The following is a listing of the wines from
the event:
WINES OF SOUTH AMERICA
1.
Crios Torrontes 2011 @$15.99
Lightly floral aromas with hints of peach pit,
honeydew rind, white pear and tangerine. On the
palate, it has beautiful structure and acidity with beguiling
fruit flavors. Consistently rated at 90 or above by
RP.
2.
Montes Cherub Rose of Syrah 2009 @$15.99
On the nose and the palate, it demonstrates a
distinctive Syrah character with spiciness and hints of strawberry, rose
and orange peel. A strong backbone of acidity and a
slight amount of tannin gives the wine a defined structure.
3.
Colonia Las Licbres Bonardo 2009 @$8.99
Flamboyant fruit flavors – juicy plumbs, dense dark
blackberries and cassis, chocolate, licorice, black pepper and earthy
spice. It is unoaked with a great tannic/acidic
structure.
4.
La Posta Cocina Tinto -
Malbec (60%), Bonardo (20%) and Syrah (20%) 2009 @$15.99
Aromas of black cherries and loganberries are
infused with mocha and spice hints. It crosses your
palate like a flood of fresh fruit with hints of baking spice and some
oak. WA = 90
5.
Orzada Carmenere 2007 @$19.99
Dark garnet in the glass with a nose of graphite,
cola and pipe tobacco. On the palate, the wine tastes
of coffee, graphite and flavors of heavily toasted oak wrapped around a
core of very juicy ripe cherry. Good acidity, very
fine grained tannins and a nice finish.
6.
Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec Mendoza 2009 @$24.99
A rich red, with ripe layers of linzer torte, plum
pudding and fig paste flavors backed by notes of mesquite, olive paste
and grilled herbs. Grippy tannins add weight to the
long, vibrant finish. WS =91 and a Top 100 Selection
for 2011
7.
Los Vascos Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon 2008
@$19.99
The bouquet of cassis, blackberry and controlled
oak is welcoming while the palate shows a spot of piercing acidity with
snappy black cherry, cassis and light olive flavors.
A quintessential Chilean Cab with a hint of herbal character, but also
bold color, power and very good fruit quality.
Produced in collaboration with Baron Phillip de Rothschild.
